Bouquet Ring- $170.00
I’d love to have a whole category in this blog dedicated to jewelry designers. I see some really hot looks…almost too many. It isn’t always easy to pick out the very best finds. But at the recent Unique L.A. event in Hollywood, I was captivated by this designer’s use of stainless steel. Wendy Hacker-Moss is the design mind behind WHM Jewelry and each of these little flowers made from mesh of the resilient metal.
Seeing the full line in person was quite impressive! Wendy has done a great job of using a cohesive style and a familiar metal to begin to build a brand. Wendy began designing jewelry almost ten years ago, WHM Jewelry officially became a company last year when Wendy’s sister Elisa came on board. Elisa joined Wendy to help come up with fresh ideas for functional, high-end looks and establish a business plan to market the collection. Her main objective…to create more affordable pieces people won’t be afraid to buy. We caught up with Elisa this week to get the full scoop on WHM Jewelry and what we can look forward to seeing more of.
LDB: Tell us about the significance of stainless steel. What made you decide that this was the best medium for you?
WHM: Wendy was attracted to the resilience of stainless steel and it has a slight give to it that other materials don’t have. Precious metal clay, for example is a common material in jewelry design, but it doesn’t have the same give and can break more easily. Even though our designs are beautiful and delicate-looking, people need to know that they are wearable and won’t easily come apart.
LDB: What do you see the brand looking like five years from now?
WHM: We love small boutiques and we would really like to keep our designs made here in California to closely control the quality of the product. Right now we are focused on getting more exposure in high-end boutiques where our pieces would fit best.
LDB: Where is your collection currently available?
WHM: We are currently in stores all over the country and are committed to showing our products often and trade shows and craft fairs all year long. Most recently, you can find us at LACMA in Los Angeles a new location soon in Brooklyn, NY and of course, at our etsy store.
