I’m starting off our little black designer book with an amazing new designer/inventor out of St. Louis, MO. Last fall, I saw a press release for a brand new product called Pocket Peelies. As soon as I read it, I knew that I had to find out more information. What an adorable idea! These premium denim jeans have an adjustable waist and are made for both boys and girls. But the fabulous feature about these jeans is that the back pockets are removable! The first pair of jeans I bought came with three pockets of my choice. Kids can share them with each other or trade them…like a modern day charm bracelet. And the designs are so adorable. Julie, the founder of Pocket Peelies, is so excited about the appeal of the idea and is working on a patent to protect her product. Here is a little bit of my recent interview with Julie.

Where did you find the inspiration for your idea? ” I really wanted to allow kids to be creative, original, happy and show their true individuality! We are working with some hospitals trying to get Pocket Full Of Smiles going. It is a program that allows kids to create their own pockets while being in the hospital. When kids are sick and sitting in bed - this gives them something to do that is fun. It puts smiles on their faces! We provide the hospital with bags of colored pencils, notebooks shaped in pockets so they can draw on them, and one donated pair of Pocket Peelies Jeans.”

Where are you when you’re not working on new designs and promoting Pocket Peelies? “When I am not working I am trying to think of other ideas that have never been in the market - products that have never been created before.”

What has been the most exciting experience for you since you launched Pocket Peelies? “Probably the most exciting part of Pocket Peelies so far is when The Big Idea called us… The entire panel - including Donny loved Pocket Peelies. The other big honor was having the President and CMO of Saks (Ron Frasch) view our product…Saks sent our product directly up to him in New York City. [But] Overall, we just love seeing kids happy. Kids love Pocket Peelies …”

I’ve had the opportunity to see Julie’s jeans in person and they have a premium quality that you don’t find in all denim brands. And, let’s face it. They are just the cutest idea we’ve seen all year. I’ll be interested to see what happens with this brand. It is such a great idea! Just remember, the original Pocket Peelies are the best and came straight from Julie’s studio in St. Louis. I highly recommend a closer look at this brand and I know we’ll see amazing things from Julie in the future.
