This season it is all about rich fabrics, versatile styles and affordability. Introducing…Mahtab Azimi. Her collection is all of these and more!

We had the chance to chat with Mahtab. She admits that she loves to see women wearing her designs. “It is a very surreal feeling and reminds me why I wanted to do this. To see women feel great and look beautiful…” Here is what she had to tell us about the launch of her collection and the inspiration behind some of our favorite pieces:

LDB: Where did you receive your training in fashion and at what point did you decide that this was the right career for you?

MA: For as long as I can remember I’ve designed and created clothing. I use to take my mom’s old clothes, cut them up to make outfits out of them. As I got older, I continued to create and design clothes as a hobby. It is something that has always brought me a lot of joy, and I knew from a very early age that I wanted to become a fashion designer.

I graduated from California State University, Northridge with a degree in Journalism. After working in television, marketing, and fashion public relations I decided to turn my childhood dream into a reality and founded Mahtab Azimi in 2008. I always knew I would eventually pursue my dream…I just didn’t think it would happen as soon as it did. There was an instinctive push that wouldn’t go away and that’s when I knew it was the right point, so I decided to stop running from it, put my fears aside and make it happen.

LDB: One of our favorites is your Marilyn top. Tell us what inspired this design.

MA: The Marilyn is Greek-Goddess inspired. I love draping and shearing. You can see it throughout my entire collection; all of my pieces have draping and shearing details. Every piece is inspired by a person, people, an event, a time in my life, a dream…there is always a story behind each piece.

LDB: Which piece from your current collection are you the most proud?

MA: The Monroe. It was the first piece I ever designed for my collection so it will always have a special place in my heart.

LDB: In five years, what do you see your career looking like? And how, will the Mahtab Azimi brand be different?

MA: I would love the opportunity to continue living my dream. I learn so much everyday as a designer, as I continue to grow and master an aspect of the design process, I would love to expand my business to design a broader range of products. I just want to become better and continue to push myself to make each collection better than the last. The Mahtab Azimi brand will always adhere to the foundation of the company which is to create a line designed and tailored to accentuate the beauty of a woman’s curves. My goal with the Mahtab Azimi brand is to adapt trends and create new trends that are easy-to-wear and make women look beautiful without conforming to unrealistic ideals.
