My family has a beautiful silver serving set passed down by my grandmother’s family. (get this! My grandmother’s maiden name was Silver and her brother’s name was Sterling…no joke!) Somehow my parents ended up with this set and it will be a small contest to see who gets to keep Sterling Silver’s sterling silver in the family. So when I met Michele, I could appreciate her sentimental ideals which led her to create a new heirloom item (made from real sterling silver) for the very special days in your life.

These items are breathtaking! The photos don’t even do them justice. The pieces area heavy in your hands. It is clear that the metal is the highest quality. Each item is embedded with an engraved silver calendar of your special month. And to make them more unique, Michele adds a Swarovski crystal stone (in the color of your choice) to the calendar on the special day you want to remember. I recently sat down with Michele to learn more about her inspiration for her product. Here is a little bit of my interview with her:

Where did the inspiration for your idea come from?

My inspiration for Not Just Any Old Day came from a calendar charm my Grandmother wore on a necklace given to her from my Grandfather. He had it made and gave it to her for one of their anniversaries. I was looking for something along those lines for a birthday present for my fiancé. And when I couldn’t find something that wasn’t out dated and boring, Not Just Any Old Day was born.

What do you enjoy most about the process of designing jewelry and gift items?

With the jewelry and gift items that I carry in my line, I’ve given thought to the types of things I would appreciate getting as a gift as well as the occasions people give gifts for. Not Just Any Old Day is a very special and sentimental gift as well as a keepsake that can be handed down to a child or grandchild.

How did you decide that this was the right career for you?

I come from a background in marketing and print advertising sales. I love selling, and love people. About 5 years ago, Crohn’s Disease and Lupus decided to rear it’s ugly head and become party of my life and I had to let go of a 15 year career. I had no idea that I would fall into this, and it’s something I can do in my spare time when I am feeling good. I’m also thrilled to have something to sell that gives such great joy when someone gets a Not Just Any Old Day Calendar Keepsake Charm.

Where are you when you aren’t working?

I spend time with my kids, fiancé and friends. Love traveling (when there is time) and hanging out with Nelson – my big furry Old English Sheepdog,

Do you have a favorite online/boutique shop?

Being the shoe freak that I am, I spend time on Zappos and am always on-line looking for new places and ways to market my product line.
