Countdown to Portland Fashion Week

Mountains of the Moon Eco-Fashion

Mountains of the Moon will be at Portland Fashion Week

Now that NY Fashion Week has wrapped up, most fashion editors turn their attention on what European runways will turn out. But there are other shows here in the U.S. that deserve more attention than they generally receive. Portland Fashion Week and Chicago’s Fashion Focus are a couple of our most anticipated fashion shows of the season. You’ll be hearing more about Fashion Focus soon from our new Chicago contributor! In the meantime, we are counting down the days until Portland Fashion Week!

PFW is not your mother’s fashion show! Portland is carving out a space in global fashion by taking the best of the Pacific Northwest-edginess and pairing it with the region’s commitment to sustainable design practices. The end result = the freshest faces in eco- and indie-fashion! We can’t wait for this show!

Portland Fashion Week is gaining International attention for their effort at showcasing new eco-sustainable design practices and educating designers, buyers and the general public on the benefits of these methods. At the same time, they have had the privilege of introducing some recognizable names to the industry in a big way. Recent winner of Project Runway, designer Leanne Marshall, got her start at Portland Fashion Week in 2006. This year, two names gaining attention are Anna Cohen and Michelle DeCourcy, both slated to reveal their Spring 2010 collections.

And, what’s more…TWO of LDB’s very own will also be hitting the runway this year. Remember Melissa Baswell (Mountains of the Moon) and Jesica Milton? You can bet we’ll be filling you in on what’s new with those names.

If you follow Independent Fashion right now…or just want to learn more about what is new in sustainable fashion design, plan to attend Portland Fashion Week October 7-11th. Tickets to the show are available  now. Click here for more info!

Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be updating you on the designers we plan to see and you can be sure that we’ll give you up-to-the-minute details once we are there!

If you plan to go, please let us know. Let’s meet up for a pre-show martini! :)
